Masterton Airfield in the district of the Wairarapa was hosting the Wings of Wairarapa Airshow from 26-28th February 2021,so deciding to attend my first event,i drove down from Papamoa in the BOP and dropped into Taupo,Napier,Hastings,Waipakurau and Dannevirke airfields before finally heading for my final destination of Masterton/Hood .
The weather was overcast but warm,so first stop was Taupo which produced a few goodies for me ,followed up by nothing at Napier !!! So 20 mins later i visited Hastings/Bridge Pa and again came out with some first timers for me.
I heard on the grape vine that there was a week on end gliding competition at Waipukurau airfield and again discovered over 40 gliders all parked up along the airfield so again a pleasant surprise on a normally quite airfield.
Finally visiting Dannevirke for the first time and noted 3 fixed and 1 helicopter resident on show before the final 1hr drive or so trip to Masterton to witness early arrivals for the weekend Airshow.
