Walsh Memorial Scout Flying School at Matamata

On a warm cloudy day on Tuesday 18th January myself and Peter Mole attended Matamata airfield to check out the Walsh Memorial Scout event.


Nanchang CJ-6 ZK-MAO arrived from Wellington where it is operated by the local flying club.

The Walsh Memorial Scout Flying School has its annual flying scheme programme yearly here at Matamata Airfield where up to 72 students arrive on mass and pitch up tents during Wednesday 10th to Wednesday 24th January 2018. 

Mass flying activity descends with portable ATC pitching up to tackle the 5-6 plus in the circuit at anyone time to prevent any disasters.

Also present on the airfield were other aircraft indirectly involved with the event.

ZK-EJS Cessna 172 from Taumarunui
ZK-XXI AESL Airtourer T3A from Tauranga
and finally
ZK-MAO Nanchang CJ-6 up from Wellington.

No doubt during the week and weekend do expect some visiting aircraft to pop in and savor the atmosphere and event and hopefully some  of the local airfield hangars may be opened up to show there presents
